Film news
Brad Strickland, writing at the Compleat Bellairs:
"Vineyard Productions and MCA bought an option on the entire Bellairs series. They were planning to make a movie of The House with a Clock in its Walls, but couldn't get a decent script (reportedly because no one could figure out a good motive for Isaac Izard to want to end the world). They sold the rights to a German firm (don't remember the name, but it made The Neverending Story), who planned to make the movie and release it by March of this year. However they did not make the film, which means that now the movie rights are free again for all the books, except House, which the German firm owns for good, or until it sells the rights to some other company. So if you want to start sending letters to big time Hollywood producers urging that they look at making some Bellairs movies, this is probably a good time."
