A Tribute to Bellairs

Amy Martin pens a nice tribute to Bellairs:

It seems little recognition is given to the late John Bellairs who died in 1991. Hollywood, with its remakes of Friday the 13th and paranormal vampire romances, seems to have overlooked the young adult classic gothic thrillers by John Bellairs. However, I do not understand why some of his books have not been made into movies because, to me, there are nothing short of genius.

These days Hollywood is into making money. Remakes and apparently terrible vampire movies are what Hollywood wants and they know that they can make money off of it. John Bellairs works are pure genius and also have a cult following as well. So a John Bellairs movie that is accurate would be but knowing Hollywood these days they would screw it up big time.

Magic Mirrors

Magic Mirrors is a collection of the adult fantasy and humorous works of John Bellairs. This anthology contains Saint Fidgeta and Other Parodies (1966); The Pedant and the Shuffly (1968); The Face in the Frost (1969); and The Dolphin Cross (the uncompleted sequel to The Face in the Frost). The book contains an introduction by author Bruce Coville and a special introduction to The Dolphin Cross by Ellen Kushner.
