Who's Who: Enrico Caruso

Apparently during the heyday of the New Zebedee Opera House, performers such as Enrico Caruso made appearances there [The Doom of the Haunted Opera; 29, 44].

Enrico Caruso (1873-1921) was a world famous Italian operatic tenor. He made his singing debut in Naples in 1894 and first performed in the United States in 1903 where he was a huge success and set a standard with his unique singing style, influencing almost all subsequent tenors in the Italian and French operatic repertoires. His career spanned the years 1895 to 1920 and included a record 863 appearances at the New York Metropolitan Opera. Interestingly enough Caruso was performing in San Francisco when the famous earthquake struck on April 18, 1906. He sang more than 50 roles in Italian and French operas such as Aida and Carmen before his death caused by pleurisy.
