Something About Puffin Muffins

On little wing.

In 2015 the International Union for Conservation of Nature changed the status of the Atlantic, or common, puffin from "least concern" to "vulnerable". This means it is likely to become endangered unless the circumstances threatening its survival and reproduction improve.

I found a blog post from the following year by Maria Prchlik at the website of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds where she asked for help in raising awareness of the puffins at Bempton Cliffs. The cliffs are found on the eastern coast of England, some 350 miles east of Lundy Island where Johnny Dixon explores in The Secret of the Underground Room (1990).

While the book mentions "puffin muffin" as a clue, Prchlik requests budding bakers to come up with their own puffin muffin (or puffin-shaped muffin, or puffin-colored muffin, or - you get the idea):
So how are Puffin Muffins going to help? Well, the more that puffins are in the spotlight, the more opportunities we have to talk about them and rally support. But to make the plan work, we need Britain's bakers to swing into action. As an added incentive, the best muffin will get a set of RSPB cake tins - and we're aiming to get a recipe leaflet produced so everyone can recreate the winning entry at home.
I'm a bit late in commenting but it's never too late for dessert. Check out the pictures on the RSPB website and try creating your own.
