His television and movie guest appearances included Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Get Smart, Murder, She Wrote, and many more. He also provided voice-over work and narration for a number of Disney projects, including Welcome to Pooh Corner (1983), the voice of Dr. Watson in The Great Mouse Detective (1986) and many Read-Along records, audio cassettes, and compact discs.
Main later performed the role of Dr. Watson in the 1980 adaptation of The Treasure of Alpheus Winterborn, entitled The Clue According to Sherlock Holmes.
