Alert: New Titles from SF Gateway

We suppose we knew this was eventually going to happen, and it appears it did while we away last month. British publisher SF Gateway released the final four books in the Johnny Dixon series for those readers who a) live outside the United States and Canada and b) prefer electronic books. Much like American publisher eReads released the four Strickland-involved Dixon books earlier this year, SF Gateway has done the same – keeping with their traditional yellow covers, of course.  The first eight books were released by SF Gateway late last year.

Alert: Johnny Dixon & eReads

We’ve discovered the four additional books in the Johnny Dixon series have been released by eReads. The Drum, the Doll, and the Zombie and the three titles written by Brad Strickland - The Hand of Necromancer, The Bell, the Book, and the Spellbinder and The Wrath of the Grinning Ghost - all have colorful covers similar to the other titles in the eReads editions of the series.

In This Distracted Globe...

Seeing some of Thomas Doyle’s globes reminded us Bellairs’s characters were often fond of the little worlds within globes (and I think we've touched on this before.) Still, be careful you not walk in on the group from 'The Reprisal' (shown here).

Whirl Along with Us in the Globe

Inside the globe
How many glass orbs can you think of from the Bellairs and Strickland novels?
  • The green glass paperweight-thing of Prospero's (The Face in the Frost)
  • The snow globe Johnny sees first hand (The Hand of the Necromancer)
  • Does that crystal orb atop Mrs. Zimmermann’s staff count?
Elisabeth linked to images of snow globes created by Walter Martin and Pamela Munoz and rightly says they remind her of Bellairs's books and Gorey's illustrations.  Yes, indeed they do - and we'd love to see a series of globes with one representing each book.
