Review: Tower "Scary - But Not Too Scary...Definitely Recommended Reading"

Book review: The Tower at the End of the World

Many critics (and that includes yours truly) think that John Bellairs was possibly the finest writer of supernatural mysteries for children. His stories were rooted in the nostalgic '40s and '50s, with colorful characters and situations both cozy and chilling. Certainly, the best of Bellairs' books was his first The House with a Clock in Its Walls. Since Bellairs's death, Brad Strickland has carried on Bellairs's style in four books featuring Bellairs-created characters. Now, he has given readers a sequel to The House with a Clock in Its Walls, and it is a delightful book.

Scary - but not too scary - The Tower at the End of the World allows young readers to indulge their scare quota in a very safe way. Mr. Strickland's writing contains enough description and character development to make this worthwhile as well as exciting.

This is definitely recommended reading for young lovers of mystery.
