Review: Weatherend "Believable Minnesota Winter Setting...Inventive Plot"

Book review: The Dark Secret of Weatherend

Anthony, 14, and his librarian friend, Miss Eells, are prowling the supposedly abandoned estate of the J. K. Borkman when, just as they uncover the dead millionaire's diary, they are driven away by a strange-acting man. Shortly after, the weather turns for the worst; Anthony suspects connections between the eccentric storms and weird notations in the diary. No one believes him, however, except Miss Eells, and the two set off to stop the evil force begun by Borkman to devastate the world. Bellairs creates a believable Minnesota winter setting and compels an inventive plot to a suspenseful climax. A recommended popular read for those who like a tale of the supernatural with a touch of mystery.
