Something About Sniffles

Wild and crazy fun.

To ride in the Actaeon, Prospero shrinks himself and Roger using not some ancient enchantment or creative conjuration but, well...something involving Sniffles (The Face in the Frost, 35):
Magic words of poof, poof, piffles,
make me just as small as Sniffles.
Reader Jon Caulkett pointed out to us the source of this not-so-ancient words were from a 1940's era animated cartoon and comic-book character in the Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes series of cartoons and comics.

Famed animator Chuck Jones created the character and directed 12 cartoons, the last appearing in 1946.  In the Dell comics, Sniffles teamed with a little girl named Mary Jane and, as Caulkett recalled, “when she said those magic words, she would shrink to the size of her friend.  The two would have adventures - which is what Prospero and Roger were about to do."

Hence, why Prospero belived Warner Brothers cartoons and comic books were the trash of future generations. Go figure.
