Something About the Twelve Terrors of Christmas

Sarah Janet at the I Have Good Book blog has a few comments on John Updike's The Twelve Terrors of Christmas:

This teeny little book consists of dark and dryly humorous spins on twelve aspects of Christmas, from Santa, the man ("Something scary and off-key about him, like one of those Stephen King clowns...") to the fear of not giving enough ("Leads to dizziness in shopping malls, foot fractures on speeded-up escalators...").  Okay, so it's not the funniest thing I've ever read, but it is illustrated by Edward Gorey, which is all that really matters in this case.
