Whither Travel You?

Gorey compas
Visiting Vinalhaven this summer? Heading to Hoosac? Partying with puffins on Lundy Island? Zephyring over to New Zebedee? We are interested in hearing about any of your summer vacation plans that include visits to locations or ports of calls mentioned in John or Brad’s books. Or let us know if your vacation ends up like Rose Rita’s in The Letter, the Witch and the Ring (but if it does...well...you’re on your own...). Anyway, once you’re returned write a review of the destination, include a picture if possible, and we’ll share it online.

I actually pass through Haverhill on my way home from college, and I do remember seeing the statue that inspired the Hannah Duston reference in Bellair's novels. If I have time to snap a picture on my way home one of these days, I'll send it in.

On a recent trip to Boston, I realized that John Bellairs had fostered a love for the Red Sox, through many references to baseball. In "Figurine.." he first references Prof. Childermass as a rabid Red Sox fan who has the long-term goal of putting up an ariel on his cupola to pick up the games better from Boston. He uses a reference between Rose Rita and Mrs. Zimmermann on their ill-fated trip to the U.P., Rosie listens to Tigers games in "Letter/Witch/Ring." and Mrz Z roots for the White Sox because she used to live in Chicago.
