Usually books about traveling backward and forward in time are pretty cool and exciting- especially when they go back to ancient battles (the seige of Constantinople for example). The idea that there are natural wormholes everywhere and that its just a matter of finding them goes with my ideas perfectly.
My favorite character was Professor Childermass. He was very determined to save the people of Constantinople. He didn’t want to change the fact that Constantinople was taken over, but he didn't want the people who were hiding in the Hagia Sophia to be killed. So he disguised himself as a monk, pretended to be The Angel of Light and using a flare gun, scared the Turks off.
