Time Capsule: 1997

Jarmyn Thanatos
It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years since we first heard the strange tale of Jarmyn Thanatos and his desire to live forever. Thanatos was the spellbinder as seen in The Bell, the Book, and the Spellbinder, Brad Strickland’s second “solo” book in the Johnny Dixon series, where Johnny’s friend Fergie finds the last book in the library and sets forth a strange chain of events revealing charmin’ Jarmyn's (as we've taken to calling him) sinister secret for getting younger as the decades pass.

But who really was Thanatos and how long has he been frightening children across the east coast? Thanks to an anonymous tip we have evidence Jarmyn was on the prowl as late as the 1970s. This video shows another child – a child like Tommy McCorkle and Fergie Ferguson – out and about and approached by Thanatos. Here, Thanatos attempts to "help" the child by morphing into landmarks in a blatant attempt to live forever. Compare the two individuals: purple-toned skin, eerie eyes, and displaying supernatural abilities and powers. If Thanatos was hanging around thirty years ago then where he is now?
