Walter reminds us that last year’s sojourn was fine until he stopped for gas at a small roadside station. A small black dog kept barking at him from the screened-in porch and when its owner – a big-legged woman that ain't had no soul – finally appeared to accept the money she charged him more than price displayed on the tank. As a result, Walter says, he didn’t have enough money for tickets and had to work a few days cleaning out chicken cages on the woman’s property. It sounds slightly suspect but we’ve learned not to ask too many questions. Maybe this will be the year he makes an appearance?
