Hapy Birthday, John Bellairs

We're celebrating John Bellairs's 81st birthday this year -- and eighty years since his first birthday party:

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bellairs entertained last evening in honor of the first birthday anniversary of their son, John Bellairs. Present were Mr. and Mrs. John Monk, Mrs. Anna Dixon, Miss Mollie Dixon, Mr. and Mrs. Will Dixon, Mr. and Mrs. James Monk, and and Mrs. H. M. Bellairs. Pedro was played, prizes being won by Helen Monk nd Will Dixon.  Following the games, refreshments were served.

Pedro (or pedreaux) is a card game, which seems too difficult to explain here.  It would fit in nicely with some of the other strange-sounding card games Lewis played, such as Johnny's Nightshirt, Napoleon at St. Helena, and Spit-out-the-Window in The House with a Clock in its Walls (1973).
