The Children's Book Festival, to be held the Haverhill Public Library Saturday May 10, will present John Bellairs, author of books for older children.
Bellairs is well-known for his book The House with a Clock in its Walls, which was one of the New York Times Ten Best Books of the Year 1973.
Bellairs was born in Marshall, Michigan. He received degrees from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Chicago. His career has included being an instructor of English at several colleges, including Emmanuel College, Boston, and Merrimack College, North Andover.
At present Bellairs lives in Haverhill and is devoting full time to being a writer.
Bellairs is a member of the Authors League, Authors Guild, and has received a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship.
Among Bellairs's books in the Haverhill Public Library are The Face in the Frost; The Figure in the Shadows; and The Letter, the Witch and the King [sic].
The Children's Book Festival is sponsored by the Haverhill Public Library with a major gift from the Women's City Club of Haverhill and with the assistance of the Friends of the Haverhill Public Library.
