Something About Treehorn

Treehorn
Shrinking for distress.

The Shrinking of Treehorn by Florence Parry Heide turns 50 in 2021 but Holiday House released an anniversary edition this year for those wanting to celebrate early. It features a foreword by Caldecott Honoree Lane Smith (illustrator of Grandpa Green and Stinky Cheese Man) and shares an interview with Heide (1919-2011).

Heide's story and Edward Gorey’s artwork tell the story of the titular character who, as the title suggests, is shrinking. As in decreasing in height. And from there young Treehorn has a lot to do to get his mother and father to pay attention to him.

Two sequels followed, Treehorn's Treasure (1981) and Treehorn's Wish (1984), and an animated film adaptation directed by Ron Howard is supposedly happening. Makes me wonder what part will go to Clint. Maybe he can be the hyperactive chair.
