Something About #BobMontana

Archie Deluxe!

Today is the 100th birthday of Robert “Bob” Montana, the American comic strip artist who created the original likenesses for Archie Andrews and friends in Archie comics. Montana attended high school in Haverhill and the characters were based on people from around town and its high school. We mentioned one of the more obscure Haverhill influences a few years ago, specifically the S Jughead Jones wears:
...quoted Bob Montana’s widow, Peg Bertholet, on the topic of Jughead’s S. Bertholet proclaimed that the S was based on a hill in the area where Montana grew up called Squirrel Hill.
Montana attended the school when it was located in the building now used for Haverhill City Hall.

Now to find the connection between Terry "Pop" Tate, the owner and manager of the Chok'lit Shoppe in Riverdale, and Peter Janackas, the possible namesake of Peter's Sweet Shop where Johnny Dixon and Fergie Ferguson visit.
